Day trip ideas:

The unique and spectacular Gorges du Verdon close by with its lakes, “Sainte Croix” being the best known. Other lakes include the lake of Esparron, a superb lake considered by many as the “Perle du Verdon”. This is a stunning lake of clear, aqua-marine water for amazing swims and a great place to have picnics by. Lots of water sports available from sailing, windsurfing but also pedalos (including pedalos with slides, a great hit with children!) to the self-drive electric boats or the guided tour of the lake in a tourist boat. Other lakes include the lake of Quinson, the lake of Artignosc and the lake of Castillon also with water sport and various activities such as hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, abseiling and white water rafting, or simply enjoy the outstanding scenery.

Day trip to the seaside in Sanary-sur-Mer, Bandol, La Ciotat and/or Cassis with an array of cosy restaurants, especially serving fresh seafood such as oysters or sea urchins. Cassis beaches: From Plage du Bestouan on the west side of the harbour or Plage de la Grande Mer: a sandy beach beneath the Chateau. Outstanding views that inspired painters such as Dufy, Matisse or Vlaminck spread out in all directions.

Aix en Provence: 1 hour drive. Aix en Provence is a lively and very appealing town with numerous restaurants near the famous “Cours Mirabeau”, markets on most week-days where you can sample regional produce including the “Calissons d’Aix” (delicious marzipan based confectionery). One not to be missed is the flower market at “Place de l’Hotel” every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning.

There are lots of wonderful art galleries all within walking distance from one another in the centre of Aix, shops, music and much more!

45min from Mont St Victoire which has been recognised as a “Grand Site de France”. It is one of France’s jewel of natural heritage, much loved and painted by Impressionist painter Cézanne.

Cap Canaille, the highest sea cliffs in Europe which rises to nearly 1,400ft! The “Route des Cretes” over Cap Canaille is often referred to as one of the world's great coastal drives. Beware as you may have to wait for the strong wind “Mistral” to clear the early summer air before heading over to Cap Canaille. For the aficionado of French literature, this is Marcel Pagnol country, the author of “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des Sources”.
