Surfing on big Atlantic rollers, walking dramatic cliff-top paths or cycling along car-free green ways, there’s so much to see and do if you are staying at one of our holiday homes with pools in Brittany.
Here’s our guide to just some of the great outdoor activities you can enjoy in Brittany.
Walking
With over 700 miles of coastline Brittany offers a great variety of walking for all levels from dramatic cliffs to marshland teeming with wildlife, and wooded tidal creeks to long sandy beaches backed by sand dunes. Whilst you may not want to take on the entire length of the Coastal Path, including a stretch of the coast in a circular walk is often very straightforward. This is especially easy where peninsulas jut out into the sea and following the coast path brings you almost back to your starting point.
Cycling
Brittany has a rich heritage of cycling (some of the Tour de France’s greatest riders are Breton) and is great cycling country. There are many miles of green ways, off-road cycle routes, cycle paths as well as quiet county lanes to explore. Travel the 60 miles from Rennes to St Malo in perfect tranquillity as you follow the Ile and Rance canal. In south west Brittany a green way links the port of Douarnenez with the cathedral city of Quimper. The Tire-Bouchon (Corkscrew) train runs during the summer between Auray and Quiberon at the end of the similarly named peninsula. Why not take your bike one way by train and cycle back along the Côte Sauvage (Wild Coast).
Water-Based
Visitors to Brittany are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to water-based activities. Many of the westerly facing beaches have great surfing waves rolling in off the Atlantic. More sheltered bays provide excellent windsurfing conditions whilst the many creeks and inlets are perfect for exploring by canoe. Plus, there are endless sailing opportunities, whether trying a beginners’ sailing course in one of the numerous reputed sailing schools or mooring your boat at one of the many marinas.
Adventure
In Brittany you’ll not only be able to climb trees at one of several high-wire forest adventure courses with rope bridges, Tarzan swings and zip wires, but also some of the craggy rock faces that offer amazing views out over the sea.
