Home to the surf capital of Europe, walking in breath-taking mountain scenery or cycling through quiet pine forests, there’s so much to see and do if you are staying at one of our holiday homes with pools in Aquitaine.

Here’s our guide to just some of the great outdoor activities on offer in Aquitaine.

Walking
For something completely different, a walk up the highest sand dune in Europe, the Dune du Pilat, is a must. As well as the amazing sight of the dune itself, the views from the top are also spectacular. Although not extremely high, the dune is quite steep however the climb to the top is aided by temporary wooden stairs during the summer.

Without doubt, some of the best walking country in the whole of France can be found in southern Aquitaine. The majestic Pyrenees mountain chain offers some breath-taking high, and lower-level, routes, with the classic Grande Randonee 10 running the entire length of its spine.

A branch of the famous St James pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain also runs through Aquitaine, crossing the border via Saint Jean Pied de Port and the Roncesvalles pass.

Aside from these major routes, details of more local walks can be obtained from tourist offices in each resort.
