Read moreFrom the dramatic Pointe du Raz headland, the westernmost point of France, the south Brittany coast stretches for mile after mile with a delightful mix of rocky shoreline, sandy beaches, quiet inlets, and bustling coastal villages. Inland, the ancient cathedral city, Quimper, and the preserved village of Locronan, are worth a visit.
The far west of Brittany has a much wilder feel than further east where the coastline softens, punctuated by wooded river inlets around the attractive holiday resort of Benodet, the busy fishing port of Concarneau and artists’ town, Pont-Aven. Beyond the busy seaport town of Lorient, miles of unspoilt sands sweep down to the Quiberon Peninsula and the fascinating Golfe de Morbihan, dotted with small islands home to many prehistoric monuments. Not to be missed are the stone avenues of Carnac and the delights of old Vannes and Auray.
