Stunningly beautiful property located near Mervent forest, the largest forest in Vendee. This modern villa is spacious, light and benefits from underfloor heating throughout. The private indoor heated pool is truly magnificent and allows year-round stays. It boasts jet system counter current and enjoys natural light at one end thanks to a glass extension that opens onto the garden The villa and pool are heated in a climate-neutral way thanks to a heat pump.

The living and dining area has a beautiful light and airy feel and boasts a large TV that allows you to enjoy cosy evenings watching a film after a day visiting this beautiful region and a good swim in the pool. The kitchen is very modern and offers all mod-cons. In addition to the large living/dining room and adjoining kitchen, there are three bedrooms on the ground floor including a master bedroom with a large bathroom and dressing room, and a fourth bedroom on the first floor.

The property has been designed for people with mobility issues in mind including:

    • No steps to access the property nor to access the terrace from the house.
    • Three of the four bedrooms are on the ground floor with both showers being of the walk-in type.
    • Entry into the pool is via four steps with a handrail.
    • The furniture is as high as possible for easier access.

The villa sits at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and enjoys a large, enclosed garden with lawned areas, trees and shrubs. Thanks to its size, children have plenty of opportunities to play in a safe environment kicking a ball or playing table tennis. The covered, furnished terrace is very pleasant as it opens onto the garden, which is ideal for relaxing, listening to the birds chirping away or reading a good book in peaceful surrounding. In addition, there is a barbecue for those all-important outdoor meals while sipping a glass of rosé. If it gets a little hot the outside shower is a very welcome addition!

From the villa, you can start walks in the Foret de Mervent. The forest offers wonderful landscapes and is so handy should you wish to go on a short, medium or long walks through the woods. There are numerous sporting opportunities including cycling and horse-riding as well as an array of water sports including canoeing, kayaking and paddling at the watersports centre just 2km from the villa.

The villa is less than a handful of minutes’ drive from restaurants, a bar, bakery and a small supermarket and about an hours from the numerous beaches of La Faute sur Mer and L’Aiguillon-la-Presqu’ile. You will also find more fantastic beaches along the Atlantic coast in the resorts of La Tranche-sur-Mer, Jard-sur-Mer (both about a 75 minute drive) and the bustling seaside town of Les Sables d’Olonne, the largest resort in Vendee.

The medieval coastal town of La Rochelle, with its famous twin towers guarding the colourful old port, is an hour’s drive and just a little further the charming Ile de Ré, now a fashionable holiday destination – a must to explore without a doubt!

Last, but certainly not least, is the Puy du Fou theme park – the fourth most popular attraction in France, about fifty minutes’ drive away and not only a park like no other but certainly one not to be missed whilst on holiday in the area.

Whilst there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms the capacity has been restricted to six people, but the owner will accept an additional one to two people. Prices shown online are based on six people. Pool

Salt water heated indoor pool 8 x 4m, depth 1-1.60cm. Security: Lockable shutter system. Four steps (with handrail) down to the pool. On one side the pool opens onto a glass extension bringing in natural light and opens onto the garden. In summer many windows and doors can be opened to have a “convertible” feeling. Underwater lighting and jet machine. Extra air conditioning system. Separate heating system with a separate heat pump. Sauna located in the pool area.

Changeover day

Saturday. Check-in between 4-8pm. Checkout before 10am.

Included in the rent

  • Bed linen and towels (including pool towels). For two week stays or more a change of bed linen and towels or mid-stay cleaning can be organised for an additional cost. Please ask for details.
  • End of stay cleaning. Although cleaning is included the property must be left clean (kitchen, dishes done and put away and bins emptied). Failing that a charge may apply.
  • Water and electricity allowance of 40kwh per day included. Extra use will be charged at 0.45€ per kw).

  • Refundable security deposit of 600€ or £500 payable with the balance. The security deposit will be returned once an inventory has been completed no more than ten days after departure by bank transfer.

The watersports centre is located on an 80 hectare lake in the heart of the Mervent forest. Qualified sports instructors supervise the many sports activities offered to all audiences: canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, archery, electric boating, orienteering, paddle boarding and climbing. General public, groups (adults and children), businesses, people with specific needs, everyone can take part in the activities or simply rent equipment.

Foret de Mervent (3km)
With its 5000 hectares, this is the largest forest in Vendee. This special forest is known for being a place of tranquility and offers beautiful landscapes, including the river La Mère that crosses it. Mainly made up of holm oaks, the forest is the perfect place for those who appreciate a peaceful walk in the woods while observing the fauna and flora. Nature and sport lovers such as cyclists and hikers very much seek the forest idyllic setting. You are also likely to see horseback riders travelling the many marked paths. Families enjoy getting together around one of the many picnic tables and make the most of a moment in the heart of nature. There are also various water-related activities such as fishing, canoeing, kayaking or paddling. Last but not least you can even be accompanied or introduced to certain sports like rock climbing. This is a wonderful place to visit and very close to the villa indeed!

Vouvant (8km)
Classed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, just 8km north of the villa and a picturesque village well worth a visit. From the beautiful Mélusine Tower, the workshops and galleries, the beautiful Romanesque church of Sainte-Marie and the famous tower of the little fairy. It is in fact all that remains of an old medieval castle with a circular keep offering a spectacular panorama. Tip: Go to the second floor of the Tourist Office to see an exhibition on Mélusine and a magic notebook…

Fontenay Le Comte (10km)
Also known as the jewel or the architectural pearl of the Vendee, this attractive seaside resort is renowned for its art and history. If you like old stones, this is the place to go as it has so many splendid monuments, elegant private mansions, pretty little squares and it is also a true haven of greenery.

Marais Poitevin (23km)
Known as the Venise Verte or Green Venice the Marais Poitevin is a tranquil wetland made up of natural watercourses, man-made canals as well as meadows, dykes and fens. This remarkable area of marshland is full of wildlife and the dominant features of the landscape are the poplar trees, which shade the waterways, bending and rustling in the wind. The best way to discover this wildlife haven is by boat and these can be hired from several local centres, including the pretty village of Coulon.

Lucon (40km)
Lucon is also rich in architecture although on a lower scale. The Gothic cathedral is a listed building. It is mainly famous because Cardinal Richelieu was bishop of the town in the early 17th century.

Le Puy du Fou (56km)
With over 1.5 million visitors a year, Le Puy du Fou is the fourth most popular attraction in France. It is a fantastic attraction for all ages, and more than a theme park in the traditional sense. It offers a selection of wonderful historical shows ranging from Roman circus games to world-class falconry. The main show takes place in the evening on a huge outdoor stage behind the ruined castle. It tells the story of the 700 years of history in the area in the form of a memorable sound and light show.

La Rochelle (59km)
La Rochelle is one of the finest jewels in the French crown! La Rochelle is a most impressive medieval city and most recognisable with its famous towers at the entrance of the port. The old port is actually referred to as the best vieux port on the French Atlantic coast. The old town has old timber-framed medieval houses, mansions and Renaissance architecture, including passageways covered by 17th-century arches most of these remain in superb condition as they are protected from the salt air by slates tiles. There is also a fabulous collection of light houses, all a rich reminder of its magnificent sea heritage. Walk on the quays; discover the wonderful narrow streets of the old town, the numerous shops along the pedestrian streets and under the arcades. La Rochelle is a sheer delight and also has a great choice of seafood restaurants spread around the city serving traditional local dishes and products from the sea. In July you can enjoy the Francofolies music festival and in summer the fabulous Aquarium is open until 11pm.

La Faute sur Mer (62km)
The attractive seaside resort offers lots of sea activities such as swimming, yachting, sea kayaking, stand-up paddle and other water sports beaches on an 8km stretch of sand. Hikers and nature lovers will also be delighted by the state-owned Pointe d’Arcay Biological Reserve peak with over 200 hectares of holm oaks and pines which is only open to the public in July and August.

Ile de Ré (83km)
Île de  Ré is a charming family friendly island with preserved landscapes and amazing beaches, easily reachable from La Rochelle simply by crossing the beautiful Le Pont de L’Île Ré. Hiring bikes to explore the island is what most people tend to do. This allows you to fully admire this beautiful island, its idyllic villages and wonderful natural scenery. Discover the salt-marshes and wetland of Lilleau des Niges Nature Reserve, the wild beaches backed by sand dunes and pine forests and the idyllic villages of Ars-en-Ré and La Flotte. For oyster aficionados sampling the freshest Trousse Chemise oysters is a must! Other things to do on the island is visit the lively daily market, visit the historic town of Saint-Martin-de-Ré, home to an excellent jazz festival in August, enjoy the various events taking place at the lighthouse or simply visit it. It is possible to get to the top of the lighthouse (250 steps) and enjoy the truly mesmerising views over this enchanting and captivating island.

Les Sables d’Olonne (95km)
Les Sables d’Olonne is Vendee’s best known and largest resort. With its long promenade, choice of wide sandy beaches and excellent quayside restaurants, it is a popular destination for a family seaside holiday. It has a thriving fishing port and world class marina which is the start and finish point of the prestigious Vendee Globe sailing event, a single-handed race around the world.
