Callian is known for its tranquillity and invigorating climate while Seillans offers a range of hiking trails for walkers of all abilities, the Ernst Museum to see a collection of works by the famous surrealist artist Max Ernst. Seillans also has an annual pottery market and numerous concerts and occasional events throughout the year.
Lac de St Cassien (14km)
A superb lake just thirty-minutes away, an ideal place for water sports lovers including windsurfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, pedalo, jet ski, fishing and great for walking and horse riding in the Leisure Park. The lake is surrounded by lots of picnic areas, but it is always best to get there early to make sure you can get a spot!
Grasse (30km)
Grasse is famous worldwide for its perfumeries and is often hailed as the perfume capital of the world! It even has a museum of perfume. Grasse is a fascinating old town with pretty streets, squares full of life, numerous shops, restaurants, a daily market and a magnificent Cathedral. Grasse gets quite busy especially in August during the Fete du Jasmin where you can see floats driving through town throwing flowers into the crowd. Known as the Bataille de Fleurs (flower battle), onlookers get soaked by their natural perfume. During the event there are fireworks and dancing. If you are looking for something a little different why not visit the limestone caves and grottos leading up to the Plateau de Caussols, 4km north of Grasse.
Frejus and Saint-Raphael (32km)
Frejus is an ancient military port and Roman city with a rich historical and architectural heritage. You will find some superb Roman remains including a Roman theatre still used for various summer events and one of the largest amphitheatres from Gallic times.
Cannes (40km)
One of the unmissable jewel of the Cote d’Azur with sandy beaches and large promenade La Croisette, chic boutiques, classy restaurants, bars, shops and numerous festivals throughout the year, including of course the Cannes Film Festival in May each year.
Gorges du Verdon (54km)
The unique and spectacular Gorges du Verdon with its lakes, Sainte Croix being the best known. Other lakes include the lake of Esparron, a superb lake considered by many as the Perle du Verdon. This is a stunning lake of clear, aqua-marine water for amazing swims and a great place to have picnics by. Lots of water sports available from sailing, windsurfing but also pedalos (including pedalos with slides, a great hit with children!) to the self-drive electric boats or the guided tour of the lake in a tourist boat. Other lakes include the lake of Quinson, the lake of Artignosc and the lake of Castillon also with water sport and various activities such as hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, abseiling and white-water rafting, or simply enjoy the outstanding scenery.
Nice (64km)
Glamourous and lively seaside city with a wide range of activities on offer from shopping in Nice’s chic pedestrian precinct, to wandering around the old town with its small shops, busy pubs, restaurants and its famous market. For those interested in history there is also plenty to do such as visiting Roman remains of Cimiez where a superb Jazz festival takes place in July. There are also a number of museums to discover (Matisse, Chagall, Palais Lascaris, Art Museum MAMAC and many others). Why not go to the Parc Phoenix, a huge botanical greenhouse garden and zoo? In fact, it is one of the largest in Europe with six different tropical climates and thousands of plants to discover. Nice’s latest addition is the brand-new Promenade du Paillon a huge green zone covering twelve hectares and 1.2 kilometres long located in the heart of Nice with plants, trees, fountains and play areas. Nice has so much to offer so it is tricky narrowing it down but if you fancy an overview of Nice and see it as shown so often on photos then make your way to Mont Boron mountain which offers spectacular view points to the west over Nice harbour and the whole bay of Nice which is magnificent by day or by night when it is all lit up. To the east you will also have great views of St Jean Cap Ferrat peninsula and Monaco. There are lots of water sports along Nice coast and nearby coastal towns such as diving, parasailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, water skiing, inflatable riding, wake boarding and the latest craze – flyboarding. Why not hire bikes to ride along the Promenade des Anglais, or try rollerblading instead whilst enjoying the views of the bay and discover Nice in a brand-new way?
